Similar Artist- Beyonce
I choose to look at Beyonce as she is an iconic R&B Diva with a huge voice. The video starts with a mirror shot in shallow focus emphasising the artist we get narrative without lyrics but the backing track is playing. The video is depicting a part of the artists own experiences with pageants and not feeling pretty enough. This makes the artist seem real and relatable a key theme of this song. The bunny ears can be related to playboy bunnies and sexual objectification of women. There are two types of bunny ears in this video. We then get a low key glimpse of an all make judging panel Suggesting the artist feels as though men are judging her and that is all she's there for. The singing starts as diegetic sound bringing it into the narrative and creating the realistic portrayal of the artist showing her talent. The camera starts as a mid shot but then zooms out into a long shot empyazing her features and persuading the male gaze. I liked this affect and would like to use it in our own video. The lyrics are linked to what happens in the video for example"brush your hair" and "fix your teeth". The key messages are sang to the camera to address the audience making it a more personal experience. The song breaks for more narrative. We are shown the artist smashing all the trophies signifying that success means nothing when you think your not good enough. The title of the song features on the sash at the end of the video to carry the message through.
